I Don't Want Your Flyer!

Have you ever walked down the street and seen a person handing out flyers? Have you ever avoided their gaze so that you didn't have to take the flyer?

Well, while in New York it is easy to turn down a flyer, the person handing out flyers in China is much more aggressive making it much more likely that you are leaving with their flyer.

Lets see how the two cultures differ. In New York, the person will hold his or her hand out as you walk past usually not saying much. But in China, the person is constantly screaming something catchy and as you walk by they don't just stand with their hand out, but they press the flyer to your hand, almost forcing you to take the flyer. In New York, if you walk past without taking the flyer, then it is over. But in China, if you have a shopping bag or a open purse, the person will go as far as to stick their hand INTO your bags and DROP you a flyer.

Clearly different cultures will behave differently in the same situation. In New York we would never stick a flyer into the bag of an un-wanting person as this would likely initiate a slur of insults (at the least).

What's the lesson? If you're in China and you don't want a complete stranger sticking their hands into your bags, JUST TAKE THE FLYER!

  2. Well sometimes you need to be aggressive in order to get jobs done. And i think this demonstrate how much people in china cherrish their jobs, because i am sure the boss doesn't and wont press flyers into your hand.
